Short-Term Running Goals:
I really need to develop new goals. It's been a busy year both professionally (field work) and personally (wedding, move,...) It's time to get back on track and commit to some racing goals for next year.
Long-Term Running Goals: The long-term goals are much easier--to stay healthy and happy!
Personal: Live in Broad Run, VA with my wife; work at US Geological Survey. Baby cat running around to catch mice in our old house.

| | Not sure what day this was cuz my watch took a dump. Anyway, discovered for the first time that I can link Mountain road with the trails--ran it in reverse. | Add Comment |
| | Approximately 3 miles to stretch the legs after a long day of sitting both on airplanes and at work. Legs still sore from skiing over the weekend! | Add Comment |
| | 2000 meters in the pool. Tough workout--first time I've seen the pool since before Christmas! Ouch! I did a breast kick too hard right toward the beginning and tore something weird in my inner thigh...still feels a bit funny even to walk. But I finished, and despite the leg, I felt better than I had anticipated.

| | Okay. I have been horrible with FRB this month, and I swear to now get back on. Here is my list of excuses in consecutive order:
-Christmas/New Years busy-ness
-Sick for 1.5 weeks -In Vermont 5 days last week I ran when healthy during this time, and will back log when I'm next to my trusty watch. TODAY: I ran a hearty 6 miles from home looping around to Mountain Road. I felt nice and strong and look forward to another one tomorrow...weather permitting.

| | Approximately 8 miles looping through/around all of Bull Run mountain and coming back on the roads. This was a heckuva run--it'll be a staple now at least once a week when I'm in town. | Add Comment |
| | no miles this weekend--blitz-painted in-laws' beach house in two days; ceiling, walls, and trim. Back to exercise tomorrow. | Add Comment |
| | 6 miles on Reston trails! It's been a while, but Kristin had to stay late at work and I noticed an old pair of running shoes and some shorts in my office, so I hit the trail. A gorgeous 60 degree/sunny day turned south the instant I got outside and a cloud-burst drenched me immediately. There was thunder and lightning, pea-sized hail, the works. I cursed the weather for a bit, and then decided it was pretty awesome. | Add Comment |
| | 6 miles on the roads near home again--things are going to be too sloppy on the trails to do much of anything for a while. Heck I'd rather get barked at by big dogs anyway. Feeling strong with a relaxed (~8:00) pace.

| | 2000m in the pool. A fairly tough workout of 8 50's, 12 100's, 8 50's, and a warm down. I still don't have my breast stroke kick to where it should be because of something in my hip flexor...it's sort of driving me nuts, and I feel like a trip to the chiro may be in order.

| | I'm calling this run 8 miles; from home up Bull Run Mtn, around the perimeter of the conservancy, out Mountain Road, and then back on paved roads. It's probably more like 7.5 miles or so, but it's 8+ effort with elevation. Strong legs! Funny how more prone I am to have a good run when on trails. | Add Comment |

| | 6 miles on the roads close to home over a fresh layer of snow. We got about 5" out by our place on Friday night which made for an absolutely gorgeous weekend. We hiked on saturday a few miles, but not really mentionable for the blog--just a nice walk. | Add Comment |
