Short-Term Running Goals:
I really need to develop new goals. It's been a busy year both professionally (field work) and personally (wedding, move,...) It's time to get back on track and commit to some racing goals for next year.
Long-Term Running Goals: The long-term goals are much easier--to stay healthy and happy!
Personal: Live in Broad Run, VA with my wife; work at US Geological Survey. Baby cat running around to catch mice in our old house.

| | 7 miles on the trails and roads. I actually felt like I was in nice shape, but I was unusually winded. Especially on flats and areas that I should have been cruisin'. Temporarily attributing to either anxiety (weird day) or pollen (trees going nuts). | Add Comment |
| | I won't claim miles today. Up in Pittsburgh for the holidays, and:
Started the day with a couple matches of tennis, jogged back to the house (~1.5 miles) with Kristin Biked ~7 miles through Pittsburgh seeing the sights.

| | Again...won't claim miles for today. A couple matches of tennis in the a.m. Hiked the Sky Meadows trail system on the way home from the Burgh...about 3 miles roundtrip. Gorgeous day!!

| | No miles today--back to the gym. chest, tri's, and legs for about an hour. Gotta love pizza monday. | Add Comment |
| | Today I ran the six mile out-and-back on the roads from home and decided to bump up the intensity a notch. I've been in auto pilot for quite some time; being overly conservative so as not to burn anything out. Last night it dawned on me that this is dumb and that there's no reason to not have a fun, fast run because I'm not running any races any time soon anyway. Anyway, I cut 3.5 minutes off my usual time and today (wednesday) I feel great. It's weird...like I forgot all about speed workouts. | Add Comment |
| | Had to close the gym loop today with back/bi's/legs | Add Comment |
| | The short East End trail-->Mtn road--> Gaines road loop. Ominous weather! | Add Comment |
| | Off to Glenwood Springs/Carbondale Colorado for some Fun in the West with Brian. | Add Comment |
| | No miles, but put in some good turns at Sunlight Resort NW of Aspen. Truly spring skiing! | Add Comment |
| | 4 miles to stretch everything out and get back into the swing of things | Add Comment |
| | Felt frail today, so I went back to the gym. Approximately one hour of chest/tri's/legs | Add Comment |
| | 6 miles on the roads to the top of Gaines and back. I felt very strong today, but also kind of clumsy in my stride. Absolutely gorgeous night for a run...spring here is totally awesome. | Add Comment |
| | One hour of back/bi's/legs at the gym. Still sore from a couple days ago, and desperately in need of a different gym regime. Hitting each muscle group only one day a week is not working... | Add Comment |
| | My uber-fun loop from home, around the conservancy, and back on the roads. I generally do this run in exactly one hour, this time was 62 minutes, so not bad. Everything feels great! | Add Comment |
| | Today I took advantage of the perfect cycling conditions and headed over to the Schaffer Farms trail system. It was a pretty good ride, considering it was my first time in the saddle in many, many months. They improved the trails out there considerably, putting wooden "bridges" down in the muddier spots. The down side is that they cordially put a metal mesh over the wood for gripping purposes, and the stuff acts like a friggin' cheese grater on knees. I found out the hard way and have blood spots on my bike to prove it. | Comments(2) |
| | Approximately 5 miles of jogging today following an hour in the gym. Also ~3 mile digestion hike in the conservancy after dinner.
The new plan: Monday "wake up" the muscles at the gym; longer, full-body light workout. Wednesday/Friday muscle-group-specific workouts. This way I hit everything at least twice, once with the intent to build a bit.

| | 6 miles on roads at home. I took it easy today, just trying to build mileage and not worry too much about intensity. The dogs were particularly excited to see/eat me today, but I still want to make friends with them. | Add Comment |
| | Focused workout today: chest/tri's/legs. For the first time in a while, I didn't feel "green" in the gym. Everything was ready to rock!

| | Ran the long loop around the conservancy to the roads today. I'm surprised with how well the brutal hills have been lately, and can only assume that all the squats at the gym are paying off.

| | About three miles; East End trail to Mtn Road and back on the Alternate trail. Also a pathetic mini workout (~15 minutes) at the gym which, as I know now, closes at 7 pm on saturdays... | Add Comment |
| | Just a walk in the park. Literally. Whitney State Park south of Warrenton. It's very pretty there and set up for mountain bikes, so I will return soon with the new 29er | Add Comment |
| | We hit planet fitness directly after work, and I did a fairly generic upper body workout and concentrated on my legs. lots of squats and machine-work. I knew I'd pay for it later, so I did 3 slow miles in the rain just to stretch out the legs and make sure they stayed limber. | Add Comment |
| | Six miles on the good ol' Reston trail system again! Haven't really done this since we moved out to Broad Run, but we had dinner with friends in town after work so I did a noon run. Ran with another USGS fella Joe that I met on the trails. Good guy, and we pushed each other well. Legs a bit sore from too many squats yesterday... | Add Comment |
| | Gym day. Full upper body, since I couldn't do anything with my sore, sore legs. | Add Comment |
| | Took the new 29'er out for the first run today, despite the lack of clips for the pedals. Totally awesome ride. It's smooth, it climbs well, and it's so freaking TIGHT! | Add Comment |
