Short-Term Running Goals:
I really need to develop new goals. It's been a busy year both professionally (field work) and personally (wedding, move,...) It's time to get back on track and commit to some racing goals for next year.
Long-Term Running Goals: The long-term goals are much easier--to stay healthy and happy!
Personal: Live in Broad Run, VA with my wife; work at US Geological Survey. Baby cat running around to catch mice in our old house.

| | I generally don't count hiking miles, but this was an intense day of hiking, and I'll give it 5 "workout" miles. We were up in Dolly Sods to take advantage of killer weather (40's at night!!). Right at the end of this hike, my knee started giving me trouble, and it lasted the rest of the night and into the morning a bit. It freaked me out a bit, but now it's feeling just fine. Must have stressed it a bit too much.

| | Nice big loop around the Conservancy and back on the roads. I felt very strong on this run, and just at the end struggled with a somewhat bum knee--the same one that was hurting at the end of a hike on Friday. Today (monday) everything feels alright. | Add Comment |
| | Code orange air day...no running for me. 100 degrees, but heat index of 105 = gym day. Back and biceps today, with plans to return tomorrow for more.

| | Temps reached 102 today...another AC survival day. About an hour at the gym doing chest, tri's, and legs. This was going to be all I did today, but I got really grumpy that I can't get a run in so I just took off and did 3 miles. It was hot alright, but not as bad as I thought. Any serious run would certainly be nearly impossible, but I'm glad I did this little leg-stretcher.

| | Still trying to survive the heat..no running miles: noon: 2000 meters in the pool. Did a "pancake" workout for 1500 of it, which is where you climb out of the pool and jump back in every time you hit the wall (at either end). In a 50 meter pool, I guess that's 30 times? So yes...30...that gets really, really tiring. pm: about 15 miles in the saddle. With ~5 miles to go I blew out a spoke on my rear wheel, so had to baby it back to the barn. Did NOT need a taco'd wheel.

| | One last gym session for the week--generalized full body workout. We're seeing the last of the heinous weather, now just entering the really hot weather. | Comments(1) |

| | 6 miles in Brooklyn. Ran from the hotel over to Roosevelt Island...cool run, actually. Ran through all kinds of interesting neighborhoods. I'm not even going to ask where the serious ghettos are cuz I don't even want to know. | Add Comment |
| | Hotel Room Workout. HRW. Good core workout, and I have a couple dumbells from the driller for the other stuff. It works... | Add Comment |
| | I'm not sure how long this run is, but it's a cool loop from the hotel. Over a bridge and past some interesting buildings...stinky too, maybe NYC's waste management... | Comments(1) |
| | Another 5 miles in brooklyn | Add Comment |
| | Shifted gears and headed over to Long Island, where the hotel actually had a nice gym. Did about an hour 20 min workout that felt pretty darn good. | Add Comment |
| | Worked my butt off today in extreme heat...actually considered a run at night (put on the clothes and everything) and then laughed and cracked a beer instead. i'm tired. | Add Comment |
| | Ok...second day back from field work. Decided to hit the gym for an hour first to wait out the unbearable heat, and then ran 3 miles to slowly get back into this. Hot and sweaty!! | Add Comment |
| | We'll call it six...not sure just how long this run is, but it's the killer "long" trail run on the mtn. Ran it with Sean, which sure makes it go faster. | Add Comment |
| | noon: 2300 meters in the pool--HOT. Water was hot, and the air much worse. People left because they got ill. This is starting to suck. | Add Comment |
| | 5 miles trail/run combo. Hot 'n sweaty, but not as bad as it's been. The storms ripped through and cleared things out substantially. | Add Comment |
| | Spent about an hour in the gym doing a little of everything, then stretched the legs with 3 slow miles on the trails. I couldn't catch my breath in the gym and left feeling nauseous and dizzy, but the run was just fine. Must have been pushing it a bit hard. | Add Comment |
| | Finally good running weather!! Did the usual 6 mile road run from home and felt strong and good...excellent run. | Add Comment |
| | an hour at the gym today. Had dinner with Kristin's aunt, so couldn't slip in the miles I wanted later. but it was tasty, so all's well. | Add Comment |
